Couples Counseling

“And it feels good
To be known so well
I can't hide from you
Like I hide from myself”

— “True Blue” by boygenius

Being fully seen and loved by another human being can be one of the scariest and most healing experiences of our lives. When it gets hard, couples therapy can help you and your partner meet one another with the care and attunement you both need.

Many couples wait to try therapy until they feel they’re at a breaking point and once they get started, they wish they had come years ago. If you’re thinking about couples therapy enough to have ended up on this page, go ahead and schedule your free consultation call!

I am trained in two different couples therapy modalities that I use with clients depending on your needs and preferences. There’s no pressure to know exactly what you’re looking for before we get started.

EFCT is an evidence-based method of couples therapy based on attachment science. Therapy focuses on mapping out a couple’s negative cycle they get into when conflict comes up and restructuring emotional experience to create positive shifts in both partners. The therapist supports each partner with putting their emotional experience into words and communicating it with their partner. Sessions tend to focus on the couple’s immediate experience and their process in real time.

I have completed the Externship Training in EFCT and is a member of the International Center for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy (ICEEFT). Their website is a great resource to learn more about the model.

Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT)

Gottman Method is another evidence-based model that helps couples strengthen the foundations of their relationship, deepen their friendship, and approach conflict constructively. Couples work on getting to know one another’s inner worlds, increase connection and intimacy, and learn new ways of approaching conflict. Gottman Method involves more structured activities and homework outside of sessions than EFCT does. Both methods are based on many years of research and have been found to be effective with couples of various cultural backgrounds, sexual orientations, and ages.

I have completed Level 1 training in Gottman Method.
